It is an exciting time to be living in Toronto this summer. Not only are many of the city’s food festivals re-opening for the first time since the pandemic, new food festivals are now coming to the city! Dubbed the “Woodstock of Eating” by the New York Times, Smorgasburg is the largest weekly open-air food market in the U.S. Launched in Brooklyn, NY in 2011, the Smorgasburg food market attracts thousands of visitors to its food vendors every weekend. Smorgasburg’s popularity in Brooklyn enabled it to grow and expand into Manhattan, Jersey City, Los Angeles and Miami. Presently, Smorgasburg also operates international pop ups in cities like Osaka, Japan, and Sao Paulo, Brazil. This year, Waterfront Toronto is partnering with Smorgasburg to bring this world-renown outdoor food market to Canada for the very first time. Featuring over 50 vendors, Smorgasburg will stay in Toronto for eight consecutive Saturdays, starting from July 23rd until September 10th. This outdoors food market will be free for the public to walk through (the food is not free, of course), and it is expected to attract thousands of people (both locals and tourists) to the area surrounding 7 Queens Quay East (where Smorgasburg will take place). The organizers say the goal of Smorgasburg Toronto is to help local restaurants and food start-ups generate more revenue, and to showcase the diverse culinary talent in Toronto.
If your food business is looking to join Smorgasburg or any other festivals happening in and around Toronto this year, you will need to plan ahead for cold storage! Coolmate Rentals can provide you or your business with mobile rental coolers, freezers and combo cooler and freezer units ranging from 6’ to 16’ in size. Cooler units are vital to success at festivals and outdoor events because foods tend to go bad very quickly in the summer heat.
